Year 5 Morning Booklet 1

Short 10 minute practice exercises for year 5 children. Great to get their brains going first thing whilst you do basic admin tasks. Allow them to take home and the weekend and mark their work themselves. I find these a great way for the children to get into a routine and also take responsibility for their learning - also, parents are able to see their child’s struggles and strengths and can help accordingly. So many benefits to these little exercises!

Spanish - where is? Treasure Hunt

A great activity to wrap up learning about locations, asking where places are, directions and prepositions. Simply hide images of fire, boy and woman behind different locations on a map - each character/feature has another direction to find the next until the final one where the directions to find the treasure is hidden. I set this up across my whole classroom, hiding the pictures of boy etc. behind flashcards of the city locations, then put chocolate coins in a treasure box for the winning team. So much fun! Enjoy! disfrutar, buena suerte!

Yearly Spanish topic plan

Here I’ve made a plan of topics to teach in Spanish each term. Topics will form a basis of Spanish language knowledge and all come together for the final Summer 2 topic. This plan includes: In the city, fruit and veg, transport, at the hotel, at the restaurant, around the world. The plan outlines each topic, vocabulary to include, grammar focus and indication for conversation/dialogue opportunities. Having taught English abroad I have followed similar plans to include vocabulary, grammar and conversation in each lesson. Hope it helps ease your Spanish planning! Disfrutar!

These flashcards are great when introducing different locations around a town/city in Spanish. They provide a visual aid and the written word for the children to see together and are great for quick drilling, recalls and sticky learning. Also, use these to set up a treasure hunt around the classroom at the end of the unit - see my other Spanish resources for more on this. I used these in year 5 and they loved playing matching games with them, quick drilling reviews to fill any extra minutes you have in the day etc.
