This includes my SoW for my average ability year 8 group and what I feel are the best resources I had as part of the termly planning. It can be as interactive as you like, as the group were a bit 'rowdy' the focus was on more elements of the story than acting it out, but obviously take what you like! They really enjoyed the play particularly debating who was truly responsible for Terry's death

This was created as a stand alone lesson in the middle of a scheme of work to tackle the terrible punctuation of my year 7 class. The worksheet as a starter can be differentiated as you see fit, but the 'noisy&' punctuation activity is always received well!

Resources needed for the poem game; A3 copies of each poem, different colour pen for each team, timer & a prize! Each team starts with different poem and has an allocated time to annotate as much as possible(Points list for each feature e.g. noting rhyme was 1 but noting the rhyme scheme was 3)When time up pass the poems around room é can’t write anything already there! This produces excellent work, the competition element helps! For any like-minded PGCE students this sort of work always looks great in those folders we have to compile!

My year 11 certificates for their last day. Have shown some I mocked up, the other page includes an image you can crop with all the characters you'll need on it. Worked really well with my class, depending on the kids serious and silly awards work equally well!

This was used as the first lesson in a murder mystery scheme of work (as you can tell from the starter). However, this was a successful and fun lesson for my year 8 group for understanding imperatives.

A quick and easy revision resource to look over some aspects of the first act in The Crucible. The second item is an improved copy that includes questions that cover the entire play.

This whole term project applies to years7-9 working on a programme of one lesson a week. The students will work towards creating a class portfolio of inspirational figures once they have mastered the key literacy skills of English. The scheme allows for all three areas to be covered and should engage all students as it encourages them to find someone we've never heard of!

Three lessons that ask middle set year ten students to either defend or prosecute Derek Bentley. They must write a persuasive speech which they will present to the 'jury' who will then vote on whether or not Derek Bentley is guilty for the infamous case.

Using clips and stills from well known films I asked the class to create parts of a disaster movie but to lead up to the most exciting cliff hanger they could by using the upgraded adjective sheet. Produced some very interesting descriptions of aliens and of their characteristics!

A 5 page booklet for students to use as part of their revision, page 1 is a 're-order the events' exercise page 2 looks at the theme of parallels, in particular Mrs Johnstone and Mrs Lyons page 3 asks the students to brainstorm the information about the main characters page 4 looks at the main themes page 5 asks the students to consider the 'magic number' of the play and why Russell has chosen to structure the play in this manner

A fun lesson with an emphasis on PEE paragraphs and expanding on points - to construct pieces of evidence for a murder mystery scheme of work (A very lazy class that need encouraging to work!) Don't underestimate how good tea stained love letters are (the writing frame is included), also the finger print maker was very successful, producing very good results.

A powerpoint and adjective sheet for an entry level year 10 class with a variation of AEN and SEN requirements. The flow chart decision makers proved very useful as did the adjective sheet. I found it useful to get them to 'over describe' one element using as many as they could to get them used to using adjectives in their creative writing.

This is a lesson plan and resource for a low ability year 10 set who needed help learning how to plan a narrative. The powerpoint has notes to explain more about the tasks set for the group. By giving them examples and creating 'word banks' to encourage them to write interesting sentences.

This powerpoint takes you through the suspicious circumstances of Zack Black's death. You are provided with 4 pieces of evidence and 6 suspects. The students have to create their evidence and provide a theory that implicates one of the six suspects. Produces excellent results from bottom set year 7 to top set year 11!

OMAM and The Crucible revision lesson. Also includes a carousel, photocopy the word docs on to A3 paper. The students have a set amount of time to annotate relevant quotes, events and characters. Use different colours to keep point counting clear and you can't repeat something that&'s already written.

A version of 'Guess Who?' using the 16 poems in section. It forces the students to be able to understand similarities and differences between the poems. Plus an added element of competition with the question counter! Suggested challenges and differentiation included.

This play, based on the Pied Piper of Hamelin, has a lot to excite year 7s and 8s about literature. These are the few resources I have compiled as part of a new Scheme of Work with my year 7s. They have found these particularly interesting, and there is a lot of scope for introducing drama activities with this play that are very enjoyable.

A quick, exciting way to revise poems! Slides 5-22 should be printed for the students to create a booklet that they will annotate with relevant themes, devices and other poems to compare. The idea is to work quickly but do pause between songs to allow students time to write or share all their ideas. For those of you wondering about the music. It's very simple to create a Youtube playlist if you don&'t have access to something like Spotify. My year 11s found it very useful.
