This unit has been successfully taught to Year 4 over a five week block. It focuses on both reading and writing, developing and writing their own** story**. Resources are attached or included in the notebook. Reading objectives covered include: prediction of story ; true and false statements; discussing and using familiar words in context; predict what might happen from details stated and implied; draw inferences around character’s thoughts, feelings and actions and justify with evidence from the text; read and discuss unfamiliar words; understand the meaning of new words and understand what they mean; use an image to improve my comprehension skills; read and summarise a chapter; Writing objectives covered include: practise character description by showing, not telling; describing Marinetta from the story; exciting the reader by using my best vocabulary, including expanded noun phrases; use the perfect tense; to predict and describe the next part of a story using a fronted adverbial word bank; to punctuate direct speech; to plan a story with an historical setting; annotate different parts of a story; draft, edit and rewrite each stage of the story; to use similes and metaphors in story writing This is a comprehensive notebook.
