This resource is based off the ‘spotlight’ method of planning, where you pick the topics you want to shine your spotlight on over the academic year and then detail some of the ways this will happen.

Although it’s not a necessary requirement, after the writing framework guidance was produced, I wanted to document my nursery classes progress with making marks. They complete their page once a month and it has been absolutely incredible to see September to now progress.
Each child is encouraged to draw a self-portrait and attempt to write their own name. They are given a variety of drawing utensils to choose from also as self-selecting the implement that they feel fits their hand best is important.
