Ratio - harder GCSE style questions

(0)
GCSE maths questions on ratio are becoming increasingly more difficult and these two worksheets aim to give a flavour of what is now required, with several variables as different expressions. One sheet requires you to show that a particular ratio is achieved (so pupils can see if they have the method correct). The second sheet is the same set of questions but in the style of finding a particular ratio (so pupils won’t automatically know whether they have got it correct, so a bit more challenging). Textbook questions seem to be a bit thin on the ground so I wrote these as an extra resource for my pupils.

A powerpoint that explains the tax system for pupils in year 10 or 11, fully up to date for the tax year 2023-24. How does PAYE work? How much tax will I pay, and what about NI? When will I repay my student loan? What does a payslip tell me? There are two worksheets that accompany the ppt. One involves identifying items on a fictional payslip, and the second involves calculating how much a new graduate might get as take home pay when he lands his very exciting first job. It also touches on the differences between being self employed and employed, and brief description of the P45, P46 and P60 forms.

This powerpoint is the step by step process showing how a Suko number puzzle can be worked out. The numbers 1 to 9 have to be placed in a 3 x 3 grid so that the colour totals are correct and each group of 4 numbers add to the value shown on the grid. These puzzles encourage logical thought as well as improving arithmetic skills.
