Year 4 Word Class Quiz

(0)
I use this resource in my year 4 class as a baseline assessment to find out what my students know. It doesn’t take long and is usually used in SPaG sessions at the start of the term to identify gaps in learning. I then use the same quiz at the end of the term to see how the children have improved. This quiz is comprised of 16 questions and covers nouns, verbs, adverts and adjectives.

Enjoy! N.B. The answers are found in the notes section below each slide.

Slow writing - Improving descriptive writing

(0)
This is a powerpoint explaining the concept of slow writing; a process in which children follow certain instructions to create a descriptive piece of story writing. I have based my powerpoint on a book extract from The Snow Walker's Son by Catherine Fisher. I used this lesson with a year 4 class and they loved it. The powerpoint has a slide with a differentiated activity which can be edited to suit the needs of your class if need be. I really recommend slow writing as I have got some of the best descriptive writing out of my class from using this approach.

Book themed Maths lessons for KS1/KS2 (Year 3/4)

This lesson is designed to get children talking about their favourite types of books and using their maths skills at the same time. The lesson is based on creating a tally chart and bar graph. I usually give children the first 15 minutes of a lesson to go around the class and talk to their peers, collecting data. I’ve used this across KS1 and KS2 but it is really more suitable for year3/4.

The 4 operations planning I used with my year 3/4 class in Autumn 1. Great introduction to the year in maths and allowed children to recap and expand on what they had already learned in the previous year. Planning only. For mish-mash formative assessment for this topic, see my shop. Thanks! N.B Some people choose to add an extra 2 days to this planning. The first day is to have a full lesson on its own to show children column subtraction, as this can sometimes be a trick topic to cover (in this planning addition and subtraction are covered in 1 lesson). The second day you may wish to add is a word problem lesson, to cement the learning from this planning but also to get children to apply the skills they have learned in a different style. Thanks!
