This is a set of posters which explain some of the Maths skills that are used in the new Science GCSE specification. Each poster has a basic explanation of the skill then an example from Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There is also a link to a you tube video with a QR code.

As series of simple practicals where students investigate the properties of ionic compounds. The final practical is a demo of the electrolysis of Zinc Chloride

This resource is a series of practical activities where students make observations. They then balance a symbol equation and balance the 2 half equation by adding electrons. I have used this with both A level and GCSE chemistry classes.

Powerpoint with a self starter on carbonates. The lesson then has a practical where students carry out the reaction between different carbonate and acid. Followed by a white board activity to write a balanced symbol equation. This activity is then followed by 3 differentiated worksheets to help students practice balancing symbol equations (with answers). Followed by find someone who review metals and metal carbonates reactions. Designed to be used with the OCR gateway new (9-1) scheme

This set of resources is a practical sheet with instructions for students where they investigate the colour changes of complex ions in ligand substitution and the precipitation reactions. The Powerpoint goes through the reactions colour changes and symbol equations. This is specifically designed for OCR Chemistry and has all the reactions for that exam board but can be used for other exam boards.

This powerpoint support the experiment where students determine the % of copper in brass. Showing the end points of each stage and the equations associated with each stage in the experiment. In also has support for the final calculations. I have used it to help students in both BTEC and with the PAG in a level chemistry

Circus of activities where students go around and investigate the different properties of metals then look at the arrangement of ions and electrons to help explain the properties

Powerpoint and practical activity where students carry out the electrolysis of brine and test for the products. Works well if you have a hoffmann voltameter as well so you can collect the hydrogen produced and test it.

This is a powerpoint which explians how to do dilution calculations. It also has a practical task where student have to first make up a standard soltution of HCl by diluting from a stock. They then use this to test an unknown soltuion of sodium hydroxide using Phenolphthalein as an indicator. Technician requests are 2M HCl, 250 volumteric flask, Phenolphthalein, and 0.08M NaOH solution labelled unknown. The poerpoint also has tips on carrying out a successful titration.

This is a lesson with powerpoint and worksheet where students make a salt by neutralisation. They then fill out the worksheet to explain why each step is done , they also have to name salts from different types of neutralisation reactions and do a blind sequence activity to practice ordering the steps.

Thie resource include a powerpoint of a revision lesson for the key topics in the C2 topic for OCR Gateway Science. In it are whiteboard activities, a card sort, match up and word loop. All the activites and answers are included.

This is a powerpoint, worksheet and set of my results for decuing the order of Bromine in a reaction using colourimetry. This gives a clear outline of how to use colourimetry to monitor the progress of a reaction between bromine and methanoic acid. From the results students plot half life graphs and deduce that the reaction is 1st order with respect to bromine. There are also some follow up questions about the use of colourimetry with the answer. Included are the results from when I did the experiment.

3 Revision activities for bonding structure and shapes. The bonding is a worksheet where students have to define the 3 types of bonding with diagrams. The second is to help answer shapes of molecules questions. There are different molecules where students have to name shape, number of bonded and lone pairs finally add the bond angle. The final is a word loop print the powerpoint as a hand out with 6 slide to a page. Cut out the slide then students deal out the cards a students asks a question, another should have the answer they place the card down and then ask the next question and so on.
