Now here's a fact that has placed the black rhino of Africa on the edge of extinction. Pound for pound (or kilogram for kilogram) rhino horn brings a higher price on the world market than gold. It's little wonder then, that this animal has been hunted for its horn. This standalone unit looks at the causes and consequences of the demand for rhino horn. There have been steps to slow down, stop, reduce the losses of black rhino in the wild. There have been some successes but there have also been failures. Despite most countries placing bans on rhino horn importations the black rhino is still on the edge of extinction. Find out why. There are attachment question sheets to assist. There is also opportunity for students to put forward their ideas about saving the black rhino from extinction. After all, they will grow up in a world where these problems will exist. Your class could have a "SAVE THE BLACK RHINO" display.
