Hi everybody!

This is a resource I created to start a unit of work on percentages based on the book "If the World were a village". You do not neeed to have a copy of the book, as there extracts included in the presentation.
The lesson begins by introducing what percentages are, and supports children to work out a few examples. there are 100 squares and word problems to support the different types of learner.
Children then have to then create a 100 square which represents the percentages of people around the world. This is followed by some other percentages, which children really enjoyed. It is good cross curricular work, as it teaches children a bit about societies around the world, and how our lives differ.
The lesson ends with a column multiplication challenge, where children have to work out how many real people are represented by different percentages.
