An advanced, extensive card sort for names of orchestral instruments in four languages (English, Italian, German and French) and their common abbreviations used in scores.

Instructions:
- Print all pages
- Cut out (or have students cut out) all of the instrument names on pages 1-4
- Provide students with pages 5-8, ask them to categorise each instrument.
- Either provide a time constraint to see how much they can do or set more than one team* against each other.
*Best completed either in groups or one-student-per-section, otherwise potentially too lengthy a task to hold students' attention.

This resource is also an easy way to assemble a personalised list of unknown terminology for students to work on memorising (from those cards which are 'left over' after completing the exercise). Great for use near the start of an A-level course or for advanced theory students (e.g. ABRSM grade 8).
