This series of activities is aimed at KS2 pupils and suitable for both non-specialist and specialist music teachers. They activities reinforce the idea of a steady beat and introduce the concept of number of beats in a bar.
After watching a video of a conductor with an orchestra, pupils learn the patterns of movements for conducting 2, 3 and 4 beats in a bar. They then have the opportunity to put their conducting skills into practice whilst singing songs with different numbers of beats in a bar.
The plan culminates in small group work and includes a Conducting Challenge, with a variety of songs to conduct.
