Parts 1 and 2 in this series on the rainforests of Sabah concentrated on the structure and composition of the rainforest. This unit has a focus on the removal of rainforest and the impact this has on two endangered animals species - the orangutan and the sun bear. The four perspectives provided as attachments have a focus on situations encountered when habitat loss impacts on sun bears. These are connected with maps which show changes caused by development. This unit also creates an introduction to unit 4 which has a focus on the rapid growth of oil palm plantation which is a major cause of rainforest removal. This unit can stand alone as an example of animals that are endangered. A broader understanding of the rainforest will be reached by following the 5 titles in the Sabah Rainforest series.
