Explore density as you test cans of soda that sink or float. Diet drinks have a sugar substitute called aspartame which is REALLY sweet. Only a small amount is used to make diet sodas. Regular soda uses various forms of sugar and a LOT of sugar is used to make regular soda. This extra sugar makes the regular soda slightly heavier, or denser, so it sinks. Density describes how much matter (stuff) is in a certain space (soda can). If an object is less dense than water, it will float, and if it is denser, it will sink.
