This is a powerpoint that covers the dispute between King John I and Pope Innocent III. It covers the Interdict, the excommunication and the reconciliation, for the teaching of Edexcel’s “The reigns of King Richard I and King John, 1189–1216” course.

I made this powerpoint for one of my private tutoring clients, so it is perhaps a bit “wordier” than you might want in a classroom, but I think it would be easy to adapt the resource to suit classroom teaching.

The end slide is 33 questions that cover the content that has been taught in the other 24 slides. Again, this would be a good basis for retrieval practice, and would need adapting to suit classroom teaching.

Any questions, please just ask! Apologies in advance for any rogue typos.

(The information in this powerpoint came from my reading of Webster, Paul. King John and Religion. (UK; Boydell & Brewer, 2015), particularly chapter six)
