Teach your year 2 children how to create a leaflet about a place.Lessons have been created on flipchart, directly to support Year 2 English Grammar expected standards. This unit contains complete planning, resources and print-out copies of a teacher-made unit of work. This unit can be adapted for any location very easily, e.g. towns across the UK. Please ensure the town names are added to suit you. Lesson 1 - To know what a leaflet is. Children are introduced to audience (family about to move to location) and purpose (create a leaflet to help them discover more). Starter task image can be altered to match town you are teaching. Lesson 2 - Features of a leaflet. Children explore a model leaflet, spotting key features as they go. Lesson 3 - Unpick sections of the leaflet to support future lesson focuses. These include: Where is Leicester? What can I do there? What happened here? Who is… (famous person section/historian)? This lesson uses a Leicester (teacher-made) leaflet. This can however be easily adapted to another town (by editing on leaflet word doc). Lesson 4 - Questions. This lesson teaches children what questions are and what they must include (following Yr 2 curriculum). Question sentences produced provides children with a basis for section titles for their own independent leaflet. Lesson 5 - Using nouns and commas in a list sentence. Lesson links to the ‘Where is ____’ section. Children write various sentences listing places near and in the location. Lesson 6 - Statement sentences. Links to history section, where children learn to write simple statement sentences about someone of historical value to location. Lesson 7 - Past tense (focus on -ed verbs). Children write about the history of the location. Lesson 8 - Children adapt sentences from lesson 7 to include -ly words, e.g. Excitingly, Interestingly. Lesson 7 & 8 link to Suffixes Lesson 9 - Drafting and Creation.

Inside of each honeycomb is a selection of motivational phrases, including: Bee You Bee Kind Bee Happy Bee Patient Bee Kind and many more* There is also a selection of blank coloured honeycombs for the wall, and honeycombs containing bumblebees. These can be printed, duplicated and recoloured for your ease if needed.
