A challenging and dynamic scheme to go alongside the reading of Northern Lights (Philip Pullman), aimed at year 7 or 8. 6 weeks / 18 lessons Students will explore: A text’s context (production and reception) Characterisation Speaking & listening skills An author’s use of setting Language, imagery and connotations Close analysis of extracts Thematic analysis including themes of family, gender and growing up Perspective Intertextuality Structure Writer’s intentions/ideas/ideologies Includes two different assessment options - one in the age-adjusted style of a GCSE Literature question; one more of a GCSE Language Paper 1 Section A style Please note - reading time is not included in scheme duration as it was initially delivered as flipped learning, where reading was completed at home. Scheme can therefore be extended to include the reading, or lessons can be cut.
