In this activity, students get to plan a geography themed documentary for a TV channel. Students use their Geography knowledge to decide what the theme of the documentary will be. They may wish to choose between Physical Geography (Natural Hazards, Ecosystems, Coasts, Rivers) or Human Geography (Development, Population, Urban Issues, Economic Activity, Human Hazards). This activity is ideal for a cover lesson, a homework project or an end of term activity. A new island has been discovered in the middle of the ocean and your students are the new leaders! This activity requires students to design a country from scratch. Students have a choice of options to select from including national dishes, dress, religion and landmarks. A helping hand writing grid helps students to explain their choices. This task is suitable for cover lessons or could be used as a thematic based project for Geography, History, RE or Citizenship. It could also be set as a homework task.

Resource to suppport KS3 or KS4 lessons on development. Students to decide how to spend $2 million to improve a slum in Africa. Drawing on prior knowledge of the challenges of urban development in LICs and NEEs, students must select from a range of options and justify their choices, making links to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This activity promotes numeracy and literacy and includes ‘helping hand’ and ‘take it further’ tasks to support with differentiation. The activity includes a picture starter task and a model answer to support a ‘I Do, We Do, You Do’ approach to learning.
