There were Adelie penguins waddling along the pebble beach. Some were carrying pebbles to add to their nest. Lazy individuals would avoid the pebble search by thieving pebbles from their neighbours nest. Up on the ridge there were piles of larger rocks. These were too large for penguin transport, and besides penguins don't build walls and they don't have the remnants of wooden window frames. This unit can link with PAULET ISLAND (PART 1 - FORMATION AND PART2 - MAP) It begins with photographs of the ruined hut and uses a map to trace the history and geography of those involved in building the hut for their survival during the winter of 1903. This is an example of where geography and history (cross curriculum) are connected. Students need to gather information from the resources to answer set questions. By adding the human element this unit also relates to PART 5 -Conservation and protection.
