Complete “Ready to go” lesson with no adapting necessary!
New for AAQ Pearson Applied Science BTEC from Sept 2025 Specification
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
This lesson covers:
•What a wave is and defining oscillation with a short understanding check to assess students can identify examples of oscillations.
•Displacement-distance waves and their properties including: equilibrium position, crest, trough, amplitude, wavelength and displacement followed by an activity to check understanding
•Definitions on wave speed, wavelength and frequency
•Content and example of calculating time period or frequency using f= 1/T. At this point students are made aware of diplacement-time graphs, how they are different to displacement-distance graphs and how to identify time period from them followed by practice
•Content and example of calculating wave speed y using v= fλ followed by practice and describing wavelength, frequency and speed trends
•Example of how to utilise the 2 graphs covered in this lesson and the 2 equations to find wave speed (multi-step equation). Followed by 3 examples for students to practice.

PRINTING REQUIREMENTS: Multi-step calculation worksheet (2 copies per page)
