AI: knowing what to do when things go wrong - KS2 lesson
FULL TEACHER GUIDANCE IN THE NOTES OF THE PRESENTATION
This KS2 lesson helps pupils think about what to do when AI is involved in online situations that feel confusing, uncomfortable or unsafe. Inspired by the UK Safer Internet Centre’s AI guidance, the resource has been adapted to work more effectively in upper primary classrooms.
Instead of technical explanations, pupils explore a set of short, realistic email scenarios based on everyday experiences such as gaming, group chats, misinformation and upsetting content. This keeps discussion at a safe distance while still addressing real safeguarding issues.
The lesson focuses on practical thinking, including what could help, who could support them, and why talking to a trusted adult is the right step. It is calm, age-appropriate and discussion-led, making it suitable for Safer Internet Week, PSHE or digital wellbeing lessons.
