A kinaesthetic activity for students to understand the forms of leisure and entertainment for the rich and poor in the age of Exploration. The 11 sources and supporting information can be printed on card and placed (in any order) around the classroom or the corridor. Students are to move around reading the sources and using a venn diagram to determine whether this would be a pastime for rich, poor or both. Students to imagine they are one of the Freedom Riders in 1961. Students at each stage of their journey, based on real events, complete a thoughts and feelings diary. Students are to also comment on the reaction of whites to the campaign to integrate the interstate bus stations, and how it makes them feel about the campaign. Can be used as a booklet or students can walk through the journey by displaying in corridor, around classroom.

In our school we teach each unit of the course in both a chronological (train view) and synthesis (helicopter view). 4 time periods are taught over 3-4 lessons with a review lesson at the end of each mini unit. We mainly use textbooks Heinnemann Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992 and Access to History Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992. This lesson is called 'A land of opportunity' and introduces students to the main attitudes towards women 1865-1914 and the key factors that helped or hindered civil rights. Includes picture source analysis, factors worksheet and factor sorting, attitudes of different women using characters.

The new specification does not need lessons devoted to Joseph Smith, rather students to understand the reasons for persecution and the migration to the Great salt lake. Here are two resources to provide students with key information in a nifty and kinaesthetic way! The game board provides a chronological framework and reasons for the unpopularity of Joseph Smith and the Mormons in the east. The card sort enables students to quickly and effectively categorise both Push and pull reasons in the Mormons' migration West.

Snow, Chadwick, Lister, Simpson, Jenner, Nightingale, Pasteur and Koch. Can be used as a debating tool to evaluate who is the most significant individual in the period, or help in structuring essay questions linked to individuals in this period, or as a simple photocopied revision flashcard. These were created as part of some big picture revision lessons entitled ' Who should enter the Industrial Hall of Fame' which can be found on my page.
