I used this lesson for a double period for a very high ability year 8 class, but can be adapted for most years. Includes differentiated activities and a comic strip of 3 different levels which the students really enjoyed. The video clip was just a video from YouTube showing a white blood cell consuming a pathogen.

An observation lesson that I used with a year 9 group for the new AQA GCSE Biology course on Ecology. I used maggots with decomposing food to help describe about detritivores and the students loved it! Contains various activities that are differentiated with literacy focuses.

An observed lesson I used with a year 9 class, the worksheets contain activities to improve numeracy skills in science with table and graph work (two differentiated sheets). I have also attached the practical sheets I used for the end of the lesson which the students investigate the effect that size of seeds has on how far they can be dispersed. The clip I used was from Planet Earth Tropics episode, where the tree falls down near the start if you want to include that.

This is a lesson that I have used for both year 10 and 11 Biology classes on cancers and the risk factors that increase the chances of cancer. The mitosis card sort is optional but is aimed at high ability students. Differentiated activities are in the PowerPoint with exam style questions.

This is a lesson I have used for years 8-11 about the structure of the lungs or activity. You can also choose to do a pluck dissection yourself to give the students a better understanding of the parts of the lungs and mechanisms of breathing. It can also be a good idea to demonstrate the 'screaming jelly baby' demonstration to show the reaction between glucose and oxygen.

A lesson used between years 8-11 on the heart and blood vessels. I do double lessons in Science but it can easily be put into two. For the heart lesson, I usually do a heart dissection instead of the video and questions and get students to create a write up of the practical including: what parts they identified and how they minimized any risks during the practical. Lot of activities included with differentiation and extension questions.

A lesson on balanced diets I have used for years 7-10. Includes a range of activites where students describe the functions of each nutrient, energry requirements for different individuals and a homework where the students design a healthy eating plan.
