We looked at the Literacy Shed’s DADWAVERS! to plan the opening of the stories - a retelling of Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit, which is a highly recommended historical fiction picture book. Using these model texts for the build-up and climax, the children ‘magpie’ language for their own versions.
