Let's make spooky sounds! KS2 music.

A series of activities to help KS2 pupils learn how to make spooky musical sounds. Great for Halloween or at any time of the year!

After listening to two famous examples of ‘scary’ music, the children consider what it is about the music that gives an eerie effect. They then put what they have learned into practice and create their own scary music using percussion instruments. Ideas are included for both tuned and untuned percussion.

The unit begins with a fun rhythm activity with the focus of keeping a steady beat, using an online metronome. Minims, crotchets and quavers are then clapped along with the beat with accompanying spooky words! An independent written task is provided by a ‘Spooky Rhythms’ worksheet with an extension idea offered.

The lesson material could be taught over 2, 3 or 4 lessons, depending on the age and experience of the pupils.
