Seven creative-writing activity pages in this free 10-page sample from Writing: Developing Technique and Creativity.

How Does a Writer Work?, Slow but Sure, Drafting and Redrafting, Finding an Audience, Imagination, Points of View and Painting with Words introduce writing habits, revision, purpose, perspective and description through illustrated prompts and exercises.

The sample also includes the title, introduction and contents. Use teacher-led discussion, individual or group writing and a shared debrief with upper secondary students or young adults. There are no separate lesson-by-lesson teachers’ notes in this pack.

The full 31-page PDF contains 28 activity pages, extending to characters, dialogue, plot, tension, poetry and presenting work.

The preview images illustrate the full pack and include pages beyond this sample. The original 1984 publication, with its introduction updated in 2000, retains historical examples and scanned activity pages.
