I produced this pyramid last year and used it to good effect with my Year 6 class. You'll need to cut out the bits and make a master to copy. Basically, I pulled out the different strands from the writing mark schemes and put the progression of skills into child friendly language. It gave them a good idea of where they needed to go next in each strand.

Perfect! Just what I wanted I have tried to writing a check list for the short writing task to provide children with an idea of how they will be marked, it was a good starting point but this is much better. Thanks.
