IF CLAUSES IMPERFECT SUBJUNCTIVE TRANSLATION JIGSAW ~ FRENCH GCSE HIGHER A LEVEL THINKING SKILLS

IF CLAUSES TRANSLATION SKILLS JIGSAW Ideal as a thinking skills starter/plenary/game or for extension activities, quizzes, inter-house competition, as well as homework. Designed for able GCSE or A-level students. This activity is designed to help students secure conditional ‘if’ clauses with imperfect subjunctive and to support translation skills (into English), paying attention to accurate word order. Some descriptions have an image (all of them, copy-right free). Each page includes 4 items (2 pages in total) that need to be cut out. Each mini-jigsaw includes 3 pieces, the longest piece being placed at the top. Cards can be distributed as one big pack of 8 pairs or teachers can choose to give only 1 page at a time, with 4 items each. FRENCH VOCABULARY CARDS #1

FRENCH VOCABULARY CARDS #1

495 introductory words and phrases, ideal for beginners French, which always give my students a real flying start - there are 990 matching French and English cards, featuring vocabulary in the following groups: **- Les salutations Les jours de la semaine Les mois et les saisons de l’année Les nombres 0-100 Ma famille Les animaux Les matières scolaires Les fruits et légumes Les couleurs Les parties du corps Le temps Les pays Quelle heure est-il? (o’clock/half past) Les adjectifs La nourriture et les boissons Verbes français En ville Mots fréquents Le français pour la salle de classe Questions et réponses Conversation** There are five sets, each with 99 words and phrases (198 vocabulary cards). Each set also has an 18-page reference, recall and write workbook, with 3 differentiated challenges in each, as well as a full French-English alphabetical reference list, which is great as a year-round reference resource, not only when we’re working on these specific vocabulary groups. My students really enjoy applying and practising their French by creating game/quiz cards for each other, which is an additional way of consolidating vocab. I’ve found the best way to help students really learn their vocab is to allow them frequent and regular opportunities to work and learn independently with the cards and workbooks - not only when we’re focusing on these specific vocab groups, but throughout the whole school year - even more advanced students enjoy going ‘back to the start’! You don’t have to use all the cards at once - simply choose the vocab you want to focus on - the sets are really versatile - I use them for directed learning time, free-choice activity, homework, revision/holiday work and cover lessons for example. There are ten non-editable files in a zipped format. My resource is copyright, and can’t be shared with anyone, in any way - for wider departmental use, please purchase the whole-school license - colleagues further afield must purchase their own resource. I’ve explained copyright etc in my Terms of Use, which I’ve included here - please read them. Merci beaucoup, bon apprentissage et bon divertissement !

As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box. ✫ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer. ✫ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards. ✫ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included. ✫ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move. ✫ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays. ✫ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

Escape Room activity - French Revolution

Escape Room activity - French Revolution

This was a very low tech escape room activity. I printed off slides 1 (key words), slides 4-7 for students (2 slides per page!). The locations are on the final slide. I hid the first code cracker under a beret on an unused desk, the next clue under a guillotine by our fire exit and the third (pair of codes) under a toy crown on my classroom shelves. As I didn’t have a suitable box I could padlock, I used a cardboard wallet, holepunched it and put the padlocks through the holes on there. I used one padlock with a 3 digit code (187 - slide 8 for the questions) and a key padlock. On the wallet, I wrote in French that they had to prove to me they had complete all activities. I gave prizes to the students to open the padlock first. I did this with an able Y10 group (small class) and it took virtually a double lesson (100 minutes). Please message me if you have any questions.
