Printable Reading, Writing and SPaG Activities (low-prep) for end of term / year fun: A giant books crossword, 6 editing / proofreading SPaG puzzles and 40 Improving Sentence Structure Cards.
UPLEVELLING SENTENCES TRAILS:
40 A4 sentence improving cards, with differentiation and worked examples, which can also be used as worksheets. These support learners to take boring sentences, changing vocabulary and sentence structure step-by-step to create a much more ambitious version. Ideal end of term activity in pairs to celebrate variety and creativity in sentence writing. Students love competing and supporting each other to create ambitious sentences with this resource.
HIDDEN WORD PUZZLES:
Editing and Proofreading Puzzles Worksheets for fun SPaG revision. Originally designed for KS2 Year 5 and 6, use for starters, early finishers activities, homework tasks, SATs practice etc. Fun alternative to standard worksheets with minimal preparation required (ideal for busy start of term). Spelling, punctuation and grammar concepts included are: homophones and other common spelling errors, full stops, capital letters, question marks, commas, colons, speech marks, proper nouns, missing words, repeated words, tenses, subordinate clauses and embedded clauses. Full answer keys provided. 2 PDF files are included within the Zip file. One file contains all 6 puzzles and answer keys with a pastel background, which can be printed in colour or in greyscale and could support some learners to view the sentences more clearly. The other file is the same, only with the background removed. These puzzles may be suitable for some KS3 classes for revision too.
GIANT BOOKS CROSSWORD QUIZ:
Celebrate books and reading with this giant puzzle, ideal for fun group completion at the end of term / year, which features over 100 quiz style clues related to well-known children’s books and authors in the UK (and probably in various other countries). Includes classics as well as books published right up to the last few months; most are novels or picture books. If being completed by a larger group, I suggest printing in A3 if possible but it works well in A4 too. It best suits 8 to 12 year olds (Key Stage 2 / KS2 or early KS3). It’s ideal for World Book Day, any other celebration of reading and authors or for some literary fun at the end or start of term. Alternatively it could be used as an early finisher activity that students / groups could come back to over a few lessons / weeks. It sparks off lots of fun informal book chat as children keenly compete against other groups to complete it. SOLUTION IS INCLUDED. There is also an Answer Sheet with all answers listed alphabetically, which could be given out for support where necessary.<br />
