An interactive ppt of the periodic table designed for mastery of nuclear decay equations. The ppt is colour coded based on type of decay (Alpha / Beta). When you click on each element its decay equation appears on the ppt. Intended use in class; ask students to choose an isotope from the periodic table, ask them to write down the decay equation on a miniwhiteboard before clicking on the element on the ppt to check their answer. Can lead into discussions of decay chains. Note: While the mass numbers given in the periodic table are sometimes off less common isotopes to ensure that there are a suitable number of beta emitters in the table. This is for GCSE: Beta minus decay and alpha only

AL extension or IB spec. A ppt intended to be teacher led (but equally could be given to students for private study). The ppt derives the Bohr equation for the energy levels in a hydrogen atom, ending with the Expression E=-13.54/n^2 No fancy maths, but plenty of space to make a small mistake if going through on the board. The ppt goes through the issue with the rutherford model, Bohr’s hypothesis of quantised energy levels, de-broglies proof that wave like properties leave to quantised energy levels and then the derivation.

A simple tracker for recording student progress in A Level Physics for the CPAC / PAG criteria. I created this after being frustrated by how much time it took to fill in the AQA / OCR trackers. This spreadsheet: Takes much less time to record student marks Quickly shows student attainment across all criteria Quickly shows which practicals have been marked and which have not which helps if managing a large department. 4 files are included. One how two document and then a separate tracker for each of the three sciences.

Loosely based on the Joule island resource Students have an island, and $10 to spend on power generation. Once they have committed to their design as a class you preceed through the next 10 days of climatic conditions which have an influence on the power output. Any team that reliably produces power for 10 days wins. Really engaging and gets students thinking about the challenges posed different power solutions.

Each module broken down into a logical teaching order. Each lesson has deliverable points and suggested activities. To be clear this SOW does not have detailed lesson plans (see thumbnail picture for a representative example). It is however excellent if you are new to OCR and trying to structure the course.

Students are given a ficticious absorption spectrum for light from a star. From this they can use their diffraction grating knowledge to calculate absorbed frequencies, they can then work out the absorbed photon energy and therefore the bohr model for the ficticious element involved. Red shift is not included for simplicity Answers included. Takes approx. 30 min, although time for this task is very dependent on ability, best for stretching top end.

Resource includes board, rules and a proforma for the game cards. Game cards need populating. Generally I set the creation of the games cards as a prep, telling each student which modules they should make cards for.
