The aims are to distinguish alternating from direct currents and to remind your students of why ac is so important (they should already have met this at pre-16 level).

if you're looking for a packaged lesson/scheme to teach A.C. and rms values then I recommend this resource. There is a plan for the teacher with hints on the best approach and ideas for differentiation. Naturally you'll need the usual A level equipment including C.R.O.s to use the practical approach. A worksheet with questions and experiments are included.
