Debating Interpretations of The Emigrée by Carol Rumens - AQA Power and Conflict Anthology

This is a lesson I prepared for my group when looking at the poem The Emigrée as part of the AQA Power and Conflict Anthology.

I gave two groups each a different interpretation and asked them to prepare to present on how the poem supported their interpretation, thinking about close reading and quotations from the text. We then had a free debate about which interpretation we found most relevant and why.

I had quite a small group, so you may wish to adjust the groupings to suit your class size, it may be that you have a few different groups working on interpretation 1 for example, or you may wish to split up the focus of both groups.
