Domestic abuse charity Advance has created a series of age-appropriate educational toolkits to help young women and girls be better informed about spotting the ‘red flags’ of an abusive relationship.
The toolkit comprises ‘conversation starters’ for teachers and parents, discussion topics and 5 short films based on true stories
The toolkits are targeted at 3 different audiences: 12-16 year olds; 16-25 year olds and parents/carers.
Females under the age of 19 are twice as likely to experience violence than older women.
Research by Advance found that 73% of young women participants wished they had known more about consent when they began having sexual relationships. 91% believed that their early intimate relationships had affected their mental health adversely, due to those relationships being controlling and unhealthy.
