Maths Mapping Mystery KS2

I did this as an observed lesson with my Year 3 class and they absolutely loved it; which is all that really matters at the end of the day. I've never heard them laugh so much as when I read out our suspects board with captions of some of their photos.

The premise was "The Case of the Missing Chocolate Bar." Our topic this term is chocolate and we are reading the novel "The Dragon with the Chocolate Heart." As one of our students actually did lose his chocolate bar I decided to buy another one and stage a who-dunnit (it was the dragon from our story). Of course the premise and item hidden could easily be changed to suit any topic.

The children have to solve clues/maths problems and write the answer in words. The clues tell the children which letter in that word they will need later to unscramble into the hiding place of the chocolate bar ("Teacher's chair"). I taped the chocolate bar under the teacher's chair. The clues could easily be edited to spell a different location.

I would have loved to get yellow caution tape to string around the classroom but alas, only so much time in a day!
