EYFS garden topic writing task "That's not my..."

I have designed an activity based on the Fiona Watt "That's not my..." books to tie in with our garden topic. You need a few materials for the children to choose from (foil, fabric, cotton wool...) and there are 5 pages to complete (leaves, roots, petals, stem and seeds) The children choose a suitable material to stick on to either the leaves or petals...and then write a sentence such as "That's not my flower, the leaves are too fluffy." The repetitive nature of the sentence writing along with the cross curricular links of materials in science has been a winner. It also helps them learn the parts of a flower.

Outstanding Adaptable Independent Activity

This is a basic grid with the ability to adapt to many uses and subjects. I got outstanding in an OfSTED observation and this activity was favourably mentioned in the report. I used it during a punctuation hunt - I gave the children a scenario of how a grammar fiend had gone around the school putting punctuation in places and they had to go find examples of it - they came back with loads of examples - just things like schools notices and signs. It's also been used on a shape hunt during maths where they were looking for shapes in the form of everyday objects. Really basic and simple but very adaptable!
