I have designed an activity based on the Fiona Watt "That's not my..." books to tie in with our garden topic.
You need a few materials for the children to choose from (foil, fabric, cotton wool...) and there are 5 pages to complete (leaves, roots, petals, stem and seeds)
The children choose a suitable material to stick on to either the leaves or petals...and then write a sentence such as "That's not my flower, the leaves are too fluffy."
The repetitive nature of the sentence writing along with the cross curricular links of materials in science has been a winner. It also helps them learn the parts of a flower.
