Primarily aimed at the upper end of KS2 but I have used this with Year 4 and Year 7 as all files can be modified to suit different ages and abilities. The files support the practical teaching of using litmus paper to determine acid, neutral or alkaline properties. There are a number of worksheet options depending on how you would like to approach the lesson, a powerpoint presentation with plenary slides to assess understanding and a loop card game, either to be played as a class, group or individually matched.

Work for a few lessons on Inspirational People, both historical and contemporary and male and female. Ideal for RS and/or PHSE work. Suitable for Years 5-10 but all files are editable and can be adapted to suit differing needs and abilities. Includes: -Detailed powerpoint on 10 people who have stood for something in which they believed strongly. Could be used as whole class discussion or printed off as slides for groups to feedback main points, possibly as part of a research lesson gathering extra facts. -Overview - A3 sheet showing the photographs of all 10 people. Children fill in some biographical information and try to summarise the main points of for what they stood and the hardships they faced. This is probably more suited to an older or higher ability group. -Key Themes - A4 sheet with pictures and a list of key themes. Children match the key themes to the different characters, possibly as part of a group lesson where groups are feeding back research findings. -Balloon debate cards. A fun activity where groups of children have to persuade the rest of the class why their character deserves a place in a rapidly sinking balloon, rather than being thrown over the side. The cards can be cut out, they have the photograph of the character on one side and space for notes on the back. A good introduction to debating and persuasive speaking.

An activity to revisit some of the key aspects of early algebra, namely substitution, equations (unknown on one side and unknown on both sides), expanding brackets and forming expressions. Children can work independently or in groups, slides are printed and placed randomly around a classroom or outdoor space and children work through the questions. Each subset of 4 questions gets progressively difficult so for differentiation suggest more able children do the last two of each group (i.e qu3/4/7/8/11/12/15/16/19/20 Aimed at Yr7 middle ability but could easily be used, or adapted, for more able yr6 or as a revision activity for yr8. Resources for a lesson or two investigating the effect of Surface Area on the rate of reaction. This investigation looks at the reaction of Calcium Carbonate in Acid. Includes a detailed power point with starter activities, description of surface area and practice calculations. Choice of activities, depending on how you will carry out the experiment and a number of plenary options, including a look at increasing the surface area of a cube by breaking it up and some video clips. With less able children you could just visualise the rate of reaction, rather than accurately measuring all of the ingredients. This is detailed quite nicely on one of the clips in the plenary. Aimed at 12-14 Year olds but can be adapted for different ages and abilities. All worksheets adaptable.
