Ecotourism is gaining popularity as a type of tourism. The Mount Borradaile area in West Arnhem Land provides opportunity for ecotours around the Davidson Safari Lodge. Working with local Aboriginal people, a 700 square kilometre section of land has been leased for these tour activities. Part 11 takes students to a large swampland to observe the ecology of one of the swamps adjacent to the East Alligator River. Some of the wildlife of the swamp is revealed in photographs. The final two pages provide a worksheet activity which, when attempted, should discover the level of student understanding about the swamp environment and the focus of ecotourism activity. These pages are given as a black and white attachment and a colour attachment so that teachers have a choice of hard copy provision. This unit can stand alone or it can be used to broaden understanding of the area by linking it with units 10 and 12.
