Adding a shunt in parallel with a galvanometer converts it to an ammeter with a higher range. This is a trial and error method, not one involving calculations.

I think this is best suited to KS5. This seems a rather out-of-date set of instructions on how to add a shunt to make a moving coil meter read higher currents. The ideas are interesting, but I have been using DMMs for many years.
