In this activity, students can learn how geologists use stratigraphy, the study of layered rock, to understand the sequence of geological events. As students watch baking soda-vinegar 'lava' flow from their clay volcanoes, they will see that the lava follows different paths. They will also learn how to distinguish between older and newer layered flows.
