Rainforests of the world are under threat. Developed and adapted over many centuries the rainforests achieved a degree of stability. The impacts of traditional tribal groups by hunting and gathering and low impact shifting agriculture did not cause major disruption to the rainforest ecosystem. In the last century the rapid increase in global population together with advances in technology have meant that tropical and equatorial rainforests have faced greater human impact and intrusion. These changes are apparent in Sabah (Malaysian Borneo) which is the focus of the 5 unit series. The opening unit has a focus on the natural rainforest of Sabah. It introduces the 5 layers of the forest structure and provides the foundation for the series which will follow through changes, impacts and needs for adjustments and rehabilitation. It is designed for secondary levels of geography/environmental studies. A fill-in file attachment is provided. Join the interesting journey.
