A 5-page formulae sheet/worksheet with answers for calculating the SA:V of rectangular prisms, cylinders and spheres, with some contextual questions as well. Note - contextual question 2 requires students to treat the bacteria as 2 hemispheres and a cylinder. Contextual question 3 requires students to convert their measurement of the cell diameter into µm. Should be printed on A4 otherwise it will be quite hard. Most calculations were carried out using 6SF, so if students use more figures their answers will vary a little from those I have calculated.

A specification ticklist for students. This is for the OCR 21st Century Science P1 topic. It's an exact copy of the accredited spec wording, put into a nice table so that students can tick off their progress.

Just a simple first lesson for lower ability students starting BTEC with cell structure. :)

Print out + copy for your class - each student in the group of 3 should have 1 of the 3 columns to begin with. This resource is differentiated in that the second and third columns have more pictures and the third one has mostly names of molecules and pictures. I'd give the left hand column to the most capable in the group, then the middle column to the mid-ability, and the right column to the lower ability students. It won&'t take long to complete, probably not more than 10 minutes, so is best used as a starter. :)

A comprehension activity for biologists on covalent, ionic and hydrogen bonding. Probably best for students not doing chemistry at as-level, but useful as a revision for them as well. Consists of three pages of information followed by one and a bit pages of questions. Suggestions for additional questions would be most welcome. :) Images found using Google.
