Its aim is to help to close an ongoing language & learning gap that exists between infants at school entry. For a number of children this gap continues to limit their access to a successful education and its benefits. Wizzy’s Words book of rhymes was developed following extensive research. Learning to recite and add actions to simple, increasingly challenging nursery rhymes, with their simple rhythms, is associated with successful child development and the development of phonological awareness and rhythm perception, key indicators for reading and learning readiness and successful ongoing learning. Speaking and listening is a key starting point. Each rhyme can also be used as a focus for cross themed/curricular work. Suggested links to all of the EYFS areas of learning are provided.
