Nursery Rhymes are universally validated as ideal, first, early learning resources | Use every day to promote infant development, communication, language, literacy & knowledge & understanding across all of the domains of child development & early learning

PLANNING IDEAS
Using the rhyme and starter ideas linking to:

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE | Watch the rhyme and then say the rhyme together – think about actions that could be added (see action video) | Look out for phoneme sounds that the children know whilst focusing on the rhythm of the words

PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT | Duck tries to keep the hens safe – who keeps you/us safe?

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT | Link to outdoor literacy and act out the rhyme outdoors if possible

LITERACY | Rhyming - Can we hear the words that sound the same? | What stories do we know with animals in them?

MATHEMATICS | How many hens can we see? Can we put them in twos? (pairing/sequencing)

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD |Link the rhyme to farm animals | How many do we know?

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN |
-Define and design a pen for the hens | What is a pen? What could we used to make one?
-Use Playdoh to create the scene in the rhyme
-Create pictures – linking to counting – 1 fox/1 duck/7 hens
