Think Before You Type: Teaching Online Kindness

(0)
This activity is designed to teach students about the lasting impact of online communication and the importance of kindness when messaging others. Using a fictional WhatsApp conversation between teachers, students analyse the dialogue and use a colour-coded system to identify positive and negative remarks about individuals in the chat. Students then record their observations on a visual “marking” sheet, with each negative comment leaving a lasting “scar” that represents how unkind words online can take years to heal, even if the conversation seems harmless at the time. This resource includes: A printable WhatsApp-style conversation A colour-coded marking sheet for students to annotate A discussion prompt for exploring the consequences of online negativity Learning objective: To understand how unkind online comments can leave lasting damage, and to promote empathy and positive digital communication. Ideal for PSHE, digital literacy, or anti-bullying sessions, especially in KS2 or lower KS3, including SEN groups.

Goal setting for the new term

It is so important for our children to understand where they are headed in a term and how they are going to get there. This should give a clear outline to the children of what their goal could be for the term and how they are going to get there throughout the year. It also gives an option for them to think about how the teacher can help them. My children really engaged with this and they came up with some fantastic ideas, so I hope it helps!
