a set of flashcards with pictures and French Christmas vocab and a second set with French number words to be printed on the back of the cards. Make a tree or other background shape and blutack the laminated cards number side showing on the tree. Each day allow a child to find the right card for the date and turn it over and so introduce a new item of Christmas vocabulary. The cards could also just be used as flashcards or if printed without the words they could be blutacked on board in 3 rows of 3 to play noughts and crosses

Simple song to the tune of Frere Jacques which uses the vocab from the flashcards I put on last year- nativity flashcards. Practise the vocab first and then get the children to choose the final line by wandering around the classroom letting them choose a flashcard. It gets them singing louder to be chosen to pick the card. We also devised actions for each verse/ flashcard. It also fits in with the nativity play.

I have used this ppt to introduce the royal family and also family words- mum, dad, brother ,sister, grandma, grandad, son, daughter, wife. eg get children to make up sentences with the new language. Prince Philip est le pere de Charles. Charles est le fils de Philip. and children can then substitute key words.

Introduces key animals and then allows practice with what’s missing, words jumbled up and hidden animals.

This is a simple version of the nativity story which I use with nativity flashcards I put on a couple of years ago and we do actions for each of the key words before we look at the play eg hand out to the side as though holding staff for Joseph. Hands together in inverted v for the stable etc There is also a song Petit Jesus that I put on a couple of years ago that sings to the tune of Frere Jacques which brings in all the nativity characters.
