A lesson understanding symbolism in dystopia using The Handmaid’s Tale. This lesson gives focus to uniforms that are used within dystopian novels to create a feeling of control and structure. Pupils then have to design their own dystopian uniforms based on the lesson. This lesson was designed as a one-off lesson for a year 9 group looking at an introduction to dystopian features and tropes. This lesson could be developed for an older age group. A contextual lesson introducing A Christmas Carol. During the lessons, pupils should use the worksheet to move around different information stations to fill in the gaps on their worksheet. You could include additional contextual info so that pupils have more information on their sheets by end of lesson. Structured to work as a carousel with pupils spending 5 minutes at each station gathering information to then feed back as a group. A lesson for An Inspector Calls - the Courtroom of Conscience. This looks at using hotseating as a main activity to get pupils thinking about the emotions, intent and impact of characters. Provided in the lesson: PowerPoint which can be used to support. optional resource which you may wish to use with pupils. Great for a KS4 class being introduced to An Inspector Calls for the first time. May need some guidance with the types of questions pupils ask.

A lesson looking at unseen poetry using the poem Originally by Carol Ann Duffy. Included in the lesson: PowerPoint with lesson guidance. copy of the poem to be printed - should be originally printed without the title so that pupils are able to partake in first part of the poem. This lesson encourages pupils to understand how to approach an unseen poem for their exam in KS4.

This is a lesson designed for KS3 pupils on persuasive speech writing - how to identify persuasive techniques, how to consider the effectiveness of techniques and then how to write your own persuasive speech/paragraph using a success criteria. This was a lesson I used for an interview, teaching a mixed ability year 8 class. The lesson feedback I received for this was really positive so this was something I wanted to share with others in case it was something they could use linked to persuasive/transactional writing in lessons. While this is KS3 based, this could be adapted to be taught to KS4 pupils.
