Year 9 Band Skills

A sequence of 7 lessons for year 9 music class on band skills. This is a new and revised version of my SOL. It is ideal for the last scheme of work for a Year 9 class as it starts to prepare students for independent learning and research and ensemble performances for GCSE. Each week there is new key terminology added to build a bank for evaluation performances successfully. I have created a resource booklet with 4 songs which includes; lyrics, guitar chords, piano chords and ideas for Glockenspiel. There are also tips on how to make it unique and how to add a bassline etc. You can add your own department assessment criteria for the level of difficulty you feel is appropriate. There are some listening questions and also some activities where students can try and work out simple riffs by ear. There are some extra chord and lyric sheets if you don’t want to use the ones in the resource booklet. **RECOMMENDED TO BE USED WITH GOOGLE SLIDES **

Year 8 Peter and the Wolf

A 6 week SOL based on Peter and the Wolf for a year 7 class. (Can be adapted for year 6 and 8) The aim of this project is to explore the instruments of the orchestra, learn how music and words fit together, explore graphic notation and composition. The end aim of the SOL is for the students to compose new music for each character alongside a graphic score. Then they can put this together with the text and do a whole class performance. They will each have a graphic score poster which could be then used for displays :) Throughout the module, students will explore different pieces of music and learn about key musical elements. The composition tasks can be done by using classroom percussion, keyboards, ukuleles and/or students own instruments.
