The Gorilla Who Wanted to Grow Up Guided Reading Plans

This pack includes guided reading plans for the following text: The Gorilla Who Wanted to Grow Up by Jill Tomlinson (years 2/3) In total there are 8 guided reading lesson plans, covering each of the chapters in the book. Each plan contains a 'reading and responding to the text' activity which is designed to be completed with the class teacher with the reading group. There are then follow up independent activities which the children can then complete during the remainder of the week. All of these activities are closely linked to the new National Curriculum objectives and these are listed at the beginning of each plan. Each plan also has a list of difficult words which the children can check the meaning of before the teacher led session, space to list the names of the children who are working on the text and a space for a teacher notes and evaluation. The plans have been written by an experienced primary school teacher and have been tried and tested in the classroom.

An IDL project on the circus. This lesson focuses on what it would be like growing up in the circus. A comparison study between a child in the classes life to that of a child in the circus. Learning Intention: To understand what it may be like growing up in the circus. To discuss and identify advantages and disadvantages to growing up in the circus. Success Criteria: -As I listen and watch, I can take note of key facts. -I can share my ideas and opinions. -I can list some advantages and disadvantages. -I can work well in a social group and independently. Looks at background, families, the job, education, advantages and disadvantages. A little clip from the infamous scene in dumbo to give children a little context. Follow up activity created on publisher, asks children to give 2 examples of advantages/disadvantages and using the BAR key from Ryan's thinking keys to enhance creative thinking.

This is a unit of 5 x double lessons (could easily be adapted for 10 single lessons) on the topic of growing up with a religion in the UK originally planned for year 9 but could be easily adapted for other year groups. Lesson 1: Growing Up with a Faith Lesson 2: The 5 K’s of Sikhism Lesson 3: The 5 Pillars of Islam Lesson 4: Religious Food Laws (Kosher and Halal) Lesson 5: Should Britain ban the burka? There is an accompanying student booklet which includes all student resources. These lessons have been planned by an RE specialist for delivery by non-specialists and as such are easy to work through and contain additional notes (see notes section of PPT) for non-specialists as required.
