GCSE Latin Case Usage Revision

All of the noun case uses needed for GCSE, summarised and colour-coded on two revision sheets, plus examples. I use these sheets with my students as a pre-exam memory jogger to check that they understand and can recall all of the possible ways in which the cases can be used. An A4-page version of the five declensions in all cases, singular and plural, is also included. This can be printed by students for easy revision. Also included is a set of ten sentences (invented by me) in which students have to identify the case, reason for the case usage and translate. An answer key can be seen on the final page. The examples used are directly relevant to the OCR GCSE Latin vocabulary list, so that students can revise efficiently. Particularly useful for students taking the grammar comprehension section of the Language paper, in which they have to identify a particular noun case and why it is used. Included: Pages 1 and 2 = overview of uses of the cases (Nominative, Vocative, Accusative, Genitive, Dative and Ablative Page 3 = noun table with five declensions, singular and plural Page 4 = ten practice sentences Page 5 = colour-coded answer key

MESSALINA WJCE GCSE LATIN LITERATURE: NARRATIVES 9542 - ANNOTATIONS AND NOTES.

(1)
Extremely detailed handwritten annotations for each section of the prescribed text - Messalina. These notes are very condensed so, although they were written on A4, if you can I would advise that they are printed on A3 just so they are easier to read (the print is still legible at A4 size, however). These notes are more than enough to guarantee you an A* at GCSE WJCE Level 2 Latin literature, the annotations include notes on style, grammar, word positioning, literary devices, and the effect of all of the above. These notes are directly tailored to the WJCE:9542 specification and have been organized with lots of colors, making it a perfect resource for students and teachers - as you go through the text section by section you can make sure you do not miss anything, this will give you a structured lesson and efficient revision. For every section, there is one page of annotations on the official Latin text (the exact same copy will be available in the exam you take in May/June 2017)

Imperium Latin Book 1

Imperium is a Latin course for the 21st century; unique, highly resourced and written to make fullest use of modern technology. Its texts follow the life of the Emperor Hadrian from his early childhood to his later years, as he became the most powerful man in the Roman world. Book 1 follows the young Hadrian through his childhood in Spain and Rome. His early interests in horses, hunting and the amphitheatre are all explored, as he becomes the ward of Trajan and eventually makes his way to Rome. The historical material is close to accurate throughout, though some characters have been invented to make life challenging, such as the rather nasty little donkey who bullies Hadrian’s first horse. This full text of Book 1 can be used freely by students and teachers, though copying and pasting has been disabled. Users are encouraged to deploy other resources alongside the text, such as the Site Support Pack or other files.

The Latin Conjugations: Present Tense

(0)
For those who prefer to teach verb endings early on in the Latin course, this PowerPoint provides present tense verb endings for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd conjugation. It explains what a verb is, what a subject and object are, what the verb endings tell us, and provides some practice exercises. While Cambridge Latin Course introduces Latin verb endings gradually and contextually, some like myself prefer to introduce pupils to a logical and clear explanation of conjugations and how verbs work. There is a brief introduction to the tenses at the end, which can be taught in a separate lesson if need be. However, early on, pupils sometimes ask what tense the verb they are translating is in.

This resource is made to help teach beginners Latin and is very intuitive with differentiated activities, stretch and challenge zones, and a range of cultural input. This has worked really well with pupils who are engaged with the content and style of activities. A non-specialist should be able to use this if you are introducing this as a literacy through Latin concept for a term. This sequence of materials is based on Chapter 1 of De Romanis and the content has been adapted to teach Year 7s. This could be used with Year 6s. The theme of this booklet is Gods and Goddesses starting with Ovid’s creation of the world and an adapted version of Hesiod’s ages of man from Telling Tales. I hope that you enjoy, and if you like this check out the second in the sequence. With one hour a week, this 25 page booklet should last approximately 6-8 weeks depending on pupil progress.
