Presentation contains:

- Expressions to learn greetings in Portuguese
- Question and answer in Portuguese for asking and giving name, age and where you live

Instructions for PART 1:
1) Working with a partner with the same photo (student As with As, Bs with Bs), students attempt to identify the vocabulary in their photo. (alternatively, for low-level students, the teacher can provide students with a vocabulary list and the students label the photo).
2) Change pairs to AB.
3) Student A describes photo while student B listens attentively.
4) Student B describes photo while student A listens attentively.
5) Still without looking at each other’s photos, students attempt to identify 3 differences between their photos.
Students may now look at each other’s photos and describe 2-3 differences each.

GAMIFICATION ALTERNATIVES PROVIDED WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS
Word search has 31 words in Portuguese related to nature. Includes 4 copies in each of 3 formats: word list in Portuguese; word list in English; no word list. Total of 12 unique puzzles.
Print on cardstock and cut into cards. Each card tells name, position in family & age. Pass out 1 per student (reduce # of families or # of family members to accommodate your class size). Students may offer info about themselves ONLY when answering a question. Students must find all members of their family. When done, each person must introduce a DIFFERENT member of the family.
Word search has 48 foods and drinks hidden. Does not have any fruits or vegetables. 5 versions with list. 5 versions without a list in order to make it more challenging.

GAMIFICATION ALTERNATIVES PROVIDED WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS
Set of 48 categories; print on cardstock. To play, read the category to the group (works best in groups of 3-5. Set timer to 30 seconds. Students work individually and write down as many words as possible that fit the category in the time allowed. Students in the group take turns reading their words. If anyone else in the group has that same word, then ALL players cross the word off. 1 point is earned for each unique word. Game encourages students to think of the less common vocabulary words associated with each category.
The original lyrics for “Eu nao sei na verdade quem eu sou” a song by a band called “O Teatro Mágico” with English translation. This is a perfect song to exemplify some usages of the verbs “ser”, “ter” and “estar”. All three verbs can be translated into the English verb “to be”.
